Ein kleines Damenportrait – eine Hofdame, als Hirtin verkleidet

Wohl deutsch, Mitte 18. Jahrhundert.

Öl auf Leinwand.

20 x 14 cm (mit Rahmen: 28 x 22,5 cm).

Die junge Hofdame trägt eine graues Seidenkleid mit goldener Brokatstickerei und um die Schultern eine blaue Schärpe an der eine rote Ledertasche befestigt ist. Auf dem Kopf trägt sie einen Stohhut. In dem linken Arm hält sie einen Hirtenstock und auf der rechten Seite wird sie von einem Lamm begleitet. Der Stohhut, der Hirtenstock und das Lamm sind mit einer roten Schleife geschmückt. Am Strohhut und am  Ausschnitt ihres Kleides trägt sie kleine Blumenbouquets.

Durch die Verkleidung als Hirtin entflieht die Hofdame  den Zwängen und Sorgen der Realität und begibt sich in den Garten Eden. Indem sie in die Rolle einer Hirtin schlüpft, legt sie ihr Streben nach Reichtum und Ruhm ab und lebt nun in Arkadien.

A small portrait of a lady – A lady-in-waiting disguised as a shepherdess

The young lady-in-waiting is wearing a gray silk dress with gold brocade embroidery and a blue sash around her shoulders, to which a red leather bag is attached. She wears a straw hat on her head. In her left arm she holds a shepherd’s staff and on her right side she is accompanied by a lamb. The straw hat, the shepherd’s staff and the lamb are decorated with a red bow. She wears small bouquets of flowers on her straw hat and on the neckline of her dress.

.By disguising herself as a shepherdess, the court lady escapes the constraints and worries of reality and enters the Garden of Eden. Taking on the role of a shepherdess, she abandons her quest for wealth and fame and now resides in Arcadia.
